What better way to celebrate the Festival of Lights (aka Hanukkah) than with this fabulous extreme menorah and a fire in your fire pit? As I sit here sipping Christmas blend coffee and looking at blogs with gorgeous photos of Christmas trees, I am feeling a little left out of the general festivities. All will be good when I light up my menorah and feast on latkes and jelly donuts. Latkes are a little difficult for outdoor entertaining but jelly donuts will be delicious with my spicy coffee sipped around the fire on the first night of Hanukkah.

I collect old cookbooks and my 1961 edition of Time Life states, and I quote, “grilling is a man’s job.”. Despite being a trained cook, I must admit to having followed that edict all of my life and left the outdoor cooking to my husband. This is embarrassing to admit. But I have finally broken out the giant grilling tongs and gotten to work. I made marinated pork tenderloins last night which were perfectly cooked and with July 4th weekend upon me, I am feeling adventurous. I’ve got some chicken thighs in the fridge which I am thinking of marinating in something lemony and spicy and wraping in naan- not traditional for the holiday weekend but delicious just the same. Perfect finger food to eat around the Fancy Fire Pit!

Summer is here and with it, fire pit season. Sam is lighting a fire every night and hanging out with his friends. My challenge is to figure out how to cook over our Fancy Fire Pit without incinerating the food. I love to entertain year round but the summer is especially fun and I am full of ideas. Our next project will be a grill grate for the fire pit. I love an outdoor kitchen!
